Lady Blazers continue hot run, hand Lady Cardinals to second winless season

After putting blemish on Arellano University’s season, the College of Saint Benilde Lady Blazers carry on with their bid for the semifinals after dismantling the Mapua University Lady Cardinals, 25-18, 25-15, 25-17, Thursday afternoon at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

Middle hitters Rachel Austero and Ranya Musa led the Taft-based squad with 12 and 10 points, respectively. The former paced the team in attacks and blocks, as each had an ace.

Benilde head coach Arnold Laniog shared that the plan for the day is to polish the skills they practiced.

He said, “Well ‘yung game kanina is ano lang, sabi ko nga, lamang tayo in terms of skills, in terms of experience and sabihin na natin na level of game as a team. Kumbaga ang target namin is ma-perform namin ang pinractice namin and ma-improve namin ang mga areas na kailangan namin i-improve coming into sa mga next games namin na which is ‘yun ang crucial against Perpetual.”

The interim mentor also emptied his bench in this game. “Nabigyan din ng chance ang ibang players na ma-feel ang experience sa loob ng court kung paano maglaro,” he ended.

Three Lady Cardinals registered five points each in Jela Pena, Kat Racelis, and Lorraine Barias.

The Blazers (5-3) will close out their eliminations in might be the semis-clinching match against the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA (5-2) on Tuesday.
