San Sebastian’s Soltones, Eroa return to the Finals

Grethcel Soltones and Alyssa Eroa are back in the Finals!

In the battle of the two undefeated teams of the elimination round of the NCAA Season 92 Women’s Beach Volleyball tournament and a rematch of last year’s championship bout, the San Sebastian College-Recoletos Lady Stags successfully got an outright Finals berth after a major win against the San Beda College Lady Red Spikers, 33-31, 21-14 at the sands of the Subic Park Hotel in the Subic Bay Freeport Zone.

“Hindi namin expected ‘yung sweep kasi gusto lang namin mag-enjoy this season at hindi rin kami naka-training [masyado] ng outdoor,” Soltones told Tiebreaker Times. “So ayun, parang sige lang laro lang kami and then we’ll see kung ano ang mangyayari.”

“Thankful din kami na ganito ang nangyari, kahit hindi kami nagtraining nagawa namin ‘yung dapat naming gawin.”

As of press time, San Sebastian awaits the winner of the last stepladder match between San Beda and the University of Perpetual Help that shall take place Sunday morning. The Lady Stags are currently the three-time defending champions and all that Soltones wants now is to close her collegiate career four straight beach volleyball titles.

“Ang motivation ko po is ‘yung pagkatalo namin sa indoor [against Arellano]. Both of us want this tournament,” Soltones added.

In the quarterfinals, the Lady Altas tandem of Marijo Medalla and Bianca Tripoli eliminated the surprising Lady Bombers team of Shola Alvarez and Rosalie Pepito, 16-21, 21-15, 15-12, to advance to the semifinals.

Here are the rest of the results for the last day of the elimination round:
