San Beda, San Sebastian keep perfect slates intact


In the second day of the NCAA Season 92 Women’s Beach Volleyball Tournament on the sands of the Subic Park Hotel at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone, the San Beda College Lady Red Spikers and the San Sebastian College-Recoletos Lady Stags maintained their firm grip on the top of the standings with undefeated 5-0 and 4-0 records respectively.

Coming off a strong opening day performance, San Beda’s Jieza and Nieza Viray’s beach volleyball mastery were once again on full display. The twin sisters from the province of Pangasinan started off with a 21-11, 25-23 win against College of Saint Benilde’s Melanie Torres and Angela Enginco, and followed it up with an easy 21-6, 21-15 over Shaira Hermano and Neila Ramilio of the still-winless Mapua Institute of Technology Lady Cardinals.

Morever, the Viray twins got their first major win of the tournament as they handed the tandem of Marijo Medalla and Bianca Tripoli of the University of Perpetual Help Lady Altas its first loss of the season via a 21-13, 21-11 win.

On the other hand, defending champion San Sebastian continued their steady groove in the ongoing tournament. The combo of Grethcel Soltones and Alyssa Eroa had their way with a 21-13, 21-15 win over Kathleen Barrinuevo and Glayssa Torres of the Colegio de San Juan de Letran Lady Knights, and also had a 21-11, 21-15 win over Cherilyn Sindayen and Czarina Orros of the Lyceum of the Philippines University Lady Pirates.

The third day of this tournament shall resume tomorrow at 7 o’clock in the morning.
