MPL PH: Echo secures playoff spot with conquest of Onic

Echo is the second team to secure a playoff berth after a dramatic 2-0 win over Onic Philippines in Week 6 of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Philippines Season 11 on Saturday.

The Orcas improved to 8-2 with 22pts, just two points behind league-leading Bren Esports (9-1) who has 24pts. Onic’s chances of returning to the playoffs are now in jeopardy after they fell to 3-7 with nine points going into their last four matches.

The reigning M4 world champions delivered their iconic split push strategy to secure the opening win, sacrificing bodies in the lord pit during the 14th-minute lord fight to keep Onic occupied. Meanwhile, Benedict “Bennyqt” Gonzales (Lesley) sneakily flickered into the enemy base turret to take the objective.

Sanford “Sanford” Vinuya (Arlott) took the match MVP citation courtesy of his pinpoint initiation and set-up plays en route to a 2-14 KDA.

In Game 2, Echo erased a 13th-minute 5k gold lead after Bennyqt’s (Claude) timely Blazing Duet chipped away the health bar of Onic heroes. He then touched off a 4-0 wipe that they completed into a 5-0 wipeout in the ensuing base turret invasion.

Bennyqt finished with a perfect 2-0-8 KDA in the closeout victory.
