MDL PH: Game Lab takes early lead after second sweep in a row

Game Lab took solo second at the conclusion of the first week of the Mobile Legends Bang Bang Development League (MDL) Philippines Season 1, taking down the Onic Arsenals, 2-0, on Thursday.

Game Lab engaged Onic in a close Game 1 until Mark “Dokmen” Nazar (Ruby) executed a pinpoint “Don’t run, Wolf King!” set-up late in the 19th minute to cancel Bert “Bert.” Segovia’s (Lunox) RubyDD play led to a clean 5-0 wipeout and taking the opener, 1-0.

In Game 2, Dokmen (Chou) once again provided the highlight reels with a pivotal Way of the Dragon set-up play during the 5th-minute turtle fight to help Game Lab secure the turtle buff and score a 3-0 takedown.

Despite leading by as much as 10k on the gold tally as early as the 9th minute, Game Lab was forced to battle deep into the late game after successful defenses from Onic and had to clutch a 21st lord fight to force a 4-1 exchange and close the series, 2-0.

In the second series of the day, RSG Ignite recovered from yesterday’s loss with a 2-1 reverse sweep over debuting Blacklist Academy.

After conceding the opener, RSG leaned on Clarense “Kousei” Camilo (Melissa) and John Darry “1rrad” Abarquez (Ling) who finished with stellar 5-0-8 and 10-2-6 KDAs in Game 2 to force the rubber match.

John “Perkz” Sumawan (Atlas) then delivered a superb Fatal Link set-up play midway through the 20th minute of the decider, picking off Ian Jakob “Rindo” Seguiran (Fredrin), which paved the way for 1rrad (Ling) to score a crucial kill on Lee Howard “Owl” Gonzales (Karrie) thereby securing the lord uncontested and complete the reverse sweep in the ensuing base turret invasion.

In the third match, Smart Omega Neos engaged ZOL Esports in a nip-and-tuck affair before clutching their way to a 2-1 escape for their second win in as many matches.

Christian “West” Mangabay picked up where he left off from yesterday’s domination with a brilliant display on the Beatrix pick, finishing with a perfect 7-0-2 KDA to spearhead Omega’s opening victory.

But Lei Archie “lei good kid” (Harith) came up big for ZOL in Game 2 as he scored a double kill during a lengthy 33rd minute counter initiation to extend the series, 1-1.

Game 3 went down the wire as Omega needed to emerge on top of a lengthy midlane team fight in the 23rd to finally score a wipeout and put away the pesky ZOL squad

Echo Proud closed out MDL PH’s Week 1 with a convincing 2-0 sweep of Bren Euphoria.

In Game 1, Echo used a nifty conceal play in the 13th minute to score a quick 4-0 tradeoff en route to the opening win, 1-0.

They scored a similar winning wipeout late in Game 2 to complete a dominating game where they compiled a massive 22-6 lead in the kill tally.
