There’s no doubt in Team Lakay head coach Mark Sangiao’s mind that Eduard “Landslide” Folayang deserves to be in this high-profile match in ONE Championship’s milestone event.
Folayang will be jumping over to ONE Super Series (OSS) to take on John Wayne “The Gunslinger” Parr in a three-round Muay Thai bout set on ONE X this 26 March inside the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Known as one of the most entertaining strikers in ONE’s mixed martial arts scene, Sangiao is happy that Folayang is getting the recognition he deserves and so much more as he gets the distinction of being the legendary Aussie’s final match in a career spanning nearly three decades.
“It’s legend versus legend. At Eduard’s level, he deserves matches like this,” Sangiao stated while assuring fans that Folayang won’t be a pushover in this fight. “He’s taking on John Wayne Parr and we know his capabilities in Muay Thai, but I know Eduard has the means to adjust.
“He just has to adjust to the rules. We all know Eduard and his stroking prowess. That’s his specialty.”
The soft-spoken tactician admitted that he was surprised when he heard that Folayang is being offered a shot at Parr for his retirement bout – especially since no mixed martial arts fighter has ever jumped into OSS, against Parr no less.
Parr is a 10-time World Champion in Muay Thai and kickboxing, having won titles in Australia, Asia, and Europe.
That’s why despite the tall order ahead of them, Sangiao can’t help but feel excited because it’s not every day that two legends from different sports share the ring to compete.
“I was surprised mainly because we found that [JWP] will be retiring, and he’ll be having his last dance against Eduard,” Sangiao shared.
“I’m excited for them. It’s a privilege to see these two legends go at it.”
