Entering the Battle of Brisbane, Manny Pacquiao’s camp made sure to have a rematch clause in case he lost to Jeff Horn. And in an unfortunate turn of events, the 38-year-old General Santos native lost in what some might say was a controversial decision, Sunday afternoon (Manila time).
And Pacquiao, who lost his WBO World Welterweight Championship, plans to invoke his rematch stipulation.
“We have a rematch clause, so no problem,” said Pacquiao, whose record dropped to 59-7-2.
People from Pacquiao’s camp have told Tiebreaker Times that they are looking to set up the rematch in Manila. The last time the Fighting Senator fought in home soil was back in July of 2006, defeating Oscar Larios by unanimous decision.
Horn (17-0-1, 11KOs) shared that although it is his moral obligation to fight once more in his native country of Australia, he is open to having the rematch in the Philippines.
“That’s fine. Bring it on,” he said during the post-event press conference.
Though the talks are in the earliest of stages, Top Rank Promotions is looking at a November date.
Pacquiao did not go to the post-event press conference.
