TOKYO — With just four days before the Tokyo Games, Irish Magno suffered a minor setback.
Team Pilipinas Chef de Mission Nonong Araneta bared that Magno hurt her right ankle while jumping rope on Monday. Fortunately, thanks to coach Nolito “Boy” Velasco, the injury was immediately contained.
“Nilagyan ko kaagad ng yelo at ‘nung tinignan ni Doc Randy [Molo, team doctor], okay na siya,” Velasco said.
All but the country’s gold and athletics bets are already in the Olympic Village as of Tuesday — a full three days before the opening ceremony.
“Everyone who’s here is already training in their respective training venues,” said Araneta.
“Team HD is already training, as well as the boxing team. There are challenges in bringing the athletes to their training venues, but they are all under control.”
Yuka Saso has arrived in Japan after spending the last few months in the States.
Saso will be staying in a hotel near the Kasumigaseki Country Club. Same with Bianca Pagdanganan and Juvic Pagunsan.
EJ Obiena will enter the Village on Friday while Kristina Knott is holding a week-long camp in nearby Nagasaki.
