Onic Esports emerged victorious in a battle of juggernauts as they took down AP.Bren, 3-0, to reach the Grand Finals of the M5 World Championship on Saturday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Onic head coach Denver “Yeb” Mirandan ran out of words when asked how the team managed to survive a deep deficit in the opener that built their momentum to go for the sweep.
“Actually hindi ko alam pano kami nanalo dun. Baka sinwerte lang kami,” he said.
“Inaantay lang namin magkamali ang AP.Bren nugn Game 1. Ang kaya kasing mag-end nung game is si Clint eh. So hangga’t mahohold nila si Clint dun sa throne namin, defend nang defend lang talaga ang call hanggang sa pumantay yung pera.”
AP.Bren looked prime for an opening win after establishing a 12k gold lead thanks to a colossal 13-0 lead on the kill score but Onic Esports punished their overaggression late in the 21st minute as Nicky “Kiboy” Pontonuwu (Tigreal) executed a three-man Impolosion set-up that sparked a 5-1 wipeout.
The Indonesian champions wasted no time in mounting a one-way midlane base turret siege to complete the dramatic reversal and go up 1-0
Onic then flipped the script in Game 2 as they controlled the game from the get-go led by Kiboy’s (Grock) initiation, reaching match point off an 11-minute victory.
Onic continued to dominate in Game 3 to complete the sweep.
AP.Bren will face Blacklist International in the lower bracket finals later today for the right to face Onic Esports in the grand finals.
