Louie Gonzalez denies offer to remain as La Salle asst coach

Though he only coached the De La Salle University Green Archers for one year, Louie Gonzalez will forever be grateful to Ambassador Eduardo Cojuangco, Jr. for giving him a shot.

“Whatever it is, support lang ako kay boss ECJ.

“I am always grateful for the trust and the opportunity,” said Gonzalez, who compiled an 8-6 record in the UAAP Season 81 Men’s Basketball Tournament.

Seven days ago, Tiebreaker Times broke the news that Gonzalez had been relieved of his position. American tactician Jermaine Byrd will take his place.

The Green Archers’ brass also did not retain assistant coaches Glenn Capacio, Siot Tanquincen, and Anton Altamirano. Replacing the staff are San Miguel Alab Pilipinas assistant coaches Danny Seigle, MC Abolucion, Chappy Callanta, and Lamont Waters.

However, a report surfaced that Gonzalez was also offered a spot on the team’s coaching staff. The amiable tactician vehemently denied it, saying that no offer was made.

“Gusto ko lang sana clear that we have not talked yet and wala pang ganun na offer,” disclosed Gonzalez.

What is certain is that Gonzalez will continue to support the Green Archers’ campaign.

“Like what I have mentioned, I am grateful to our boss [ECJ], sa lahat ng tulong nya sa family ko,” he expressed.

“Whatever his direction para sa ikakabuti ng team, I will support.”
