Long scores but Filipinas concede late leveler to Chile

Hali Long’s strike was not enough as the Philippine Women’s National Football Team drew 1-1 against Chile in an international friendly, Sunday morning, at the Estadio Sausalito in Vina del Mar.

The veteran Filipina defender broke the deadlock in the 26th minute when she headed the ball home past goalkeeper Christiane Endler off a free kick from Sara Eggesvik.

However, Chile — currently ranked 38th in the FIFA Women’s World Rankings — managed to find an equalizer late in the match.

Sonya Keefe, the Universidad de Chile standout, headed the ball past Filipinas goalie Olivia McDaniel in the 84th minute to draw level for the home side.

The Filipinas and the La Roja Femenina return to action on Wednesday at the Estadio Municipal de La Pintana.

Chile XI: Endler (GK, C), Olivares, Ramirez, Saez, Hidalgo, Araya, Lopez, Grez, Zamora, Keefe, Acuna.

Philippines XI: McDaniel (GK), Cesar, Long ©, Castaneda, Hawkinson, Frilles, Madarang, Guillou, Shelton, Eggesvik, Cowart.
