Larry Muyang, Petron-Letran fend off Joshua Munzon, AMA for 1st win

Despite another Joshua Munzon scoring explosion, the Petron-Letran Knights still managed to barge into the win column with a 108-91 victory over AMA Online Education in the 2019 PBA D-League Tuesday at Paco Arena in Manila.

Larry Muyang spearheaded the uprising, posting 15 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter, to go with seven rebounds.

Christian Fajarito joined him in the fight with 15 points, seven rebounds, and two assists. Meanwhile, Jeo Ambohot got a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds.

“Very talented big men from coach Jeff Napa,” admitted Knights coach Bonnie Tan.

Jerrick Balanza added 18 points and two rebounds, while Alvin Pasaol had eight points, six rebounds, and six assists in the Petron-Letran triumph.

“We’re happy na nanalo din kami. Pero playing here in the PBA D-League, win or lose, parati kaming panalo kasi we’re gaining experience. Happy lang ako na hindi sila umatras sa challenge today,” said Tan, who scored his first win as the head coach for the Knights.

Petron-Letran were quick to impose control in the game, taking an 18-point lead, 55-37. But Joshua Munzon then led AMA’s rally to close within six, 65-59 at the 3:52 mark of the third.

The Knights then took the fight inside, as their big men easily had their way to turn back the Titans.

Petron-Letran leveled their standing at 1-1 in the Aspirants Group, while AMA fell to their second straight loss to fall to 1-2.

Munzon carried the Titans with 38 points, five assists, five steals, and four rebounds.
