Lamina hopes Holy Week break helped NU find its identity

Shaky has been National University’s campaign in the ongoing UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament.

After lording over the competition in Season 84, sweeping their way to the crown, the Lady Bulldogs have been checked multiple times this edition.

And they saw that loss column change from 0 to 3 after suffering two straight-set defeats to nemesis De La Salle University and crumbling against University of Santo Tomas in five sets.

With the situation, the Holy Week break was badly needed for the Lady Bulldogs.UAAP85-WVB-Bella-Belen-7806212 Lamina hopes Holy Week break helped NU find its identity News NU UAAP Volleyball - philippine sports news

“Nung una po nagrest muna kami para mareset kami and para marelax naman yung utak and body namin kasi kailangan din po ng pahinga then after non pinaghandaan na po namin talaga yung Adamson,” shared Mhicaela Belen on how they used the week-long break.

“Siguro nag regroup lang kami as a team. Pinaka importante talaga yun since may chemistry kami,” added NU setter Camilla Lamina.

And all those Holy Week rest and preparation paid off as the Lady Bulldogs swept Adamson University, 26-24, 25-16, 25-22.

With the win, NU forged a three-way tie for second spot with the Lady Falcons and the Golden Tigresses at 7-3.

According to Belen, who made 20 points and 11 excellent receptions, this performance was their cleanest so far this tournament.

Lamina, meanwhile, said they just stuck to the system en route to the swift win in one hour and 28 minutes.

“Nagstick lang kami sa strategy ni coach (Karl Dimaculangan) and nagtiwala lang kami sa isa’t isa,” added the Season 84 Best Setter.

NU will face lower-ranked teams Far Eastern University and University of the East before having its rematch with UST. It will finish the elimination round against Ateneo de Manila University.

“For me, ang pinaghuhugutan lang namin is yung mga past na talo namin. Kailangan lang talaga namin mag-improve individually and as a team and pinanghuhugutan din namin yung motivation namin na dapat manalo kami,” closed Lamina.
