Needing more resources to help out his constituents, Cainta Mayor Kit Nieto is literally digging out of his closet to raise funds for them.
Starting Tuesday, the uncle of Gilas Pilipinas’ Matt and Mike will be auctioning three of his sneakers per day.
“Ang daming hindi nabigyan ng SAC (social amelioration card) form sa atin kasi 37,000-plus yung allocation ng cainta tas 320,000 ang tao sa atin,” read Mayor Kit’s Facebook post.
“Wala naman tayong perang tulad ng Pasig na kayang tustusan yung mga hindi na cover ng DSWD program.”
In Pasig, the DSWD identified 93,000 households that will receive monthly financial assistance from the government for the duration of the enhanced community quarantine. Vico Sotto, on the other hand, shared that 106,000 more families were also badly in need of assistance.
Due to this, Pasig’s local government unit will be the once who will shoulder their allocation.
Cainta does not have this capability however that resulted in Mayor Kit selling his beloved collection.
How much of importance are these to him?
“When we started being close siguro dun nagstart ang pagccollect niya ng shoes. And yung mga shoes na yun sa akin din galing, since I’m a Nike Ambassador, may allotted number of pairs ng shoes sa akin every month or two,” shared Matt. “So it started when I found out na nagsstart pala magbasketball si Ninong so I gave him shoes para may panglaro siya na tamang shoes at hindi sumakit feet niya.
“Then nung naging trademark niya na and known siya as being a Jordan collector, lots of his friends and family members ay yun na ang binigay sa kanya pag Pasko, birthday, or special occasions.”
During the first day of his auction that featured a Travis Scott Jordan 1 Low, a customized Air Force 1 Spiderman, and an Air Jordan 11 Bred, Mayor Kit was able to raise PHP 132,000.
And he is looking to continue this up until the ECQ has been lifted.
“Marami rami na rin akong mabibigyan ng assistance,” shared Mayor Kit.
“Magpapa-auction uli ako ng tatlong pares ng sapatos bukas at araw-araw hanggang sa matapos ang quarantine o hanggang maubos ang koleksyon ko… Kung sino ang unang sumuko.”
