Kim Dy bounces back, takes SMART Sports Player of the Week honor

Kim Kianna Dy proved to be the key to the De La Salle University Lady Spikers’ victory over archrivals Ateneo Lady Eagles, meriting her the SMART Sports/UAAP Press Corps Player of the Week tiara.

Dy exploded with a season-high of 21 points off 11 spikes, seven blocks, and three aces, aiding the Lady Spikers to topple Ateneo in four sets: 25-20, 25-17, 24-26, 25-20 on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The opposite spiker vowed to head coach Ramil de Jesus that she would makeup for her lackluster performance in La Salle’s loss to Adamson.

Her efforts allowed the Lady Spikers to bounce back to winning ways and edge out Ateneo for second place in the standings.

“After naming matalo sa Adamson, nag-message sa akin ‘yung bata na ‘yan. Sabi niya, sorry, nag-sorry and then babawi ako. Eto naman, pinakita naman niya,” said de Jesus.

Dy was convinced of the fact that the Lady Spikers needed to bounce back and regain their confidence.

“I think, coming from a loss kasi, kailangan talaga naming mag-bounce back. And we need to get that confidence again,” said Dy.

Dy was chosen over candidates UE Lady Warriors’ Shaya Adorador and Kath Arado, FEU Lady Tamaraws captain Bernadeth Pons, NU Lady Bulldogs stalwart Jaja Santiago, and UP Lady Maroons’ topscorer Tots Carlos.
