Team Liquid PH jungler Karl “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno simply laughed off the criticism and doubts surrounding his team’s playoff run, remaining unfazed by the outside noise.
The so-called “odd-even curse” traces its roots back to MPL Season 9, when then-Echo ended the season in sixth place. Since then, fans have noticed a curious trend — Team Liquid PH tends to shine during odd-numbered seasons but falters when the season number is even.
In an exclusive interview with Tiebreaker Times, KarlTzy said he never takes these kinds of rumors seriously, believing that they’re merely coincidences drawn over time.
“Natatawa lang ako kasi, kaya lang kami nalalaglag agad kasi nag-iimprove yung ibang teams,” he said.
The young GOAT remains locked in on his mission this season: to bring the championship back home and complete a back-to-back win.
While he claims not to mind the so-called curse, KarlTzy admits that deep down, there’s still a part of him determined to break it — to prove that both his skill and Team Liquid PH’s strength can rise above any superstition.
“Sana kung magtuloy-tuloy, ma-break namin yung curse and maging consistent na kami,” KarlTzy highlighted.
“Pero ngayon, talagang binibigay namin lahat ng kaya namin kaya din umabot dito.”
Following Team Liquid PH’s victory over Team Falcons in the play-ins, KarlTzy said the win could mark the start of breaking the curse — and it felt even better to do it against one of their long-time rivals.
“Sobrang sarap sa pakiramdam and sana magtuloy-tuloy,” he concluded.
