After a dominant streak that saw them win 11 consecutive games, the defending champion, ECHO, has now lost two consecutive games in the final stretch of the MPL Philippines Season 12 regular season.
The reigning world champion was actually on the verge of eclipsing Blacklist International’s historic 11-game winning streak last week but lost to a motivated RSG PH squad before eventually getting stunned by Minana EVOS to open Week 6.
Karl “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno believes that ECHO’s two consecutive losses are definitely a cause for concern heading into the playoffs, considering that this is the same trend they went through back in Season 9.
“Siguro po para sakin (’cause of concern) ‘to kasi dapat hindi kami natatalo sa ganyang team eh,” said KarlTzy after the 2-0 loss against Minana EVOS.
The only two-time world champion said that the team has been adjusting to their opponents in their recent games, especially in the draft, which is definitely far from what they have been doing in the first five weeks of the regular season.
“Tingin ko po masyado kaming nag-ooverthink sa draft eh tapos yung drafting namin hindi talaga siya ganun eh. Napapansin ko lang din na nag-aadjust kami sa kanila, dapat hindi,” he added.
ECHO put up a fight in Game 1, extending the game to as long as 25 minutes before Brian Miles “Spider-MilezAR” Santos provided a huge Bloom Play that allowed his team to survive, and eventually win, the final clash.
Minana EVOS then wrapped up the series in Game 2 via a 3-1 exchange during the 14th minute, which was powered by Jan “DomengAR” Delmundo’s (Ixia) impressive use of his Full Barrage.
ECHO will try to end its regular season on a high note against AP Bren tomorrow, Saturday at 2:30 p.m.”
