Yancy Kaibigan and Jewel Napa could not reach the Olympic dream, as they could not top their respective categories in the 2021 Mussanah Open, Thursday evening (Manila time) at the Millennium Resort in Oman.
Yancy Kaibigan saved his best race for last after topping the medal race of the men’s RS:X event.
However, the win was not enough, as eventual race winner Natthapong Phonoppharat of Thailand’s lead was too much. The latter’s third place finish sealed the win and the ticket for the 2020 Olympic Games later this year in Tokyo, Japan.
For the women’s side, Jewel Napa faltered in the must-win medal race. She ended up in third place for a total score of 24.0 points.
Singapore’s Amanda Ng Ling Kai eventually bagged the win in the race and 17.0 net points overall. The 2019 Southeast Asian Games silver medalist had to settle for second place, yielding the Olympic berth to the former.
Two-time world champion Geylord Coveta slipped to fourth after a fourth place finish, ending up with 64.0 points. Renz Angelo Amboy rounded up the men’s contingent with 76.0 net points.
