The dynamic duo of John Chicano and Nikko Huelgas could not overcome their Asian rivals in the 2018 Asian Games Triathlon Competition, Saturday morning at the JSC – Lake in Palembang, Indonesia.
Chicano, who finished with a silver medal in the 2017 Southeast Asian Games, finished in 10th place with a time of 1:54:33 – a full 4:50 behind winner Jumpei Furuya of Japan, and lagging 3:44 from a podium finish.
Chicano clocked in a time of 21:39 in the swimming part of the event, before totalling 56:10 to finish the bike track. His best time came in the running competition with a time of 35:47 that helped him finish ahead of his Southeast Asian rivals.
The same could not be said about SEA Games gold medalist Huelgas.
The three-time champion in Southeast Asia finished 16th with a time of 1:58:39 – third among Southeast Asians.
Huelgas struggled in the swim competition, falling to as low as 25th in the race. His best came in the running competition as well.
Tomorrow, the Philippine National Triathlon Team will compete in the mixed event to close out their campaign.
