Jhanlo Sangiao’s next assignment under the ONE Championship banner will represent a key move toward gearing him up for the elite of the bantamweight division.
It was announced on Thursday that the 20-year-old prospect from La Trinidad, Benguet is set to lock horns with Argentina’s Matias Farinelli on the undercard of ONE Fight Night 9, emanating from the legendary Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand on April 22.
Both men were supposed to face each other at ONE 164 this past December, but Farinelli was forced to pull out of the bout after testing positive for COVID-19.
Sangiao ended up squaring up against Anacleto “L.A.” Lauron on the card and went on to submit the ONE Warrior Series Philippines alumnus with a rear-naked choke in the first round.
The eldest son of Team Lakay headmaster Mark Sangiao owns a 5-0 professional record with a 100-percent finishing rate—four submissions and one knockout.
In addition, “The Machine” is 2-0 in the promotion.
Like Sangiao, Farinelli is also undefeated with a similar 5-0 slate with all wins coming by way of submission.
Farinelli, 38, trains at the world-renowned Tiger Muay Thai—a gym based in Phuket, Thailand that serves as a home to a number of notable fighters such as Anatoly Malykhin, Fabrício Andrade, Tang Kai, Valentina Shevchenko, and Petr Yan.
The Argentinian’s duel opposite Sangiao will be his maiden appearance in ONE Championship.
