Jhanlo Sangiao had a ONE Championship debut to remember.
The son of legendary Team Lakay head coach Mark Sangiao had a dominant debut, submitting Indonesian Paul Lumihi in the very first round during ONE: Winter Warriors II, Friday at Singapore Indoor Stadium.
The 19-year-old immediately connected on Lumihi early that stunned the striker.
“I don’t want to gamble because I know he is a striker so I took him down and submitted him,” he said.
Once Sangiao sensed that Lumihi was about to counter, the young Baguio-native went for the double leg, taking his opponent down.
It was all Sangiao from there. He moved from side control to taking Lumihi’s back. Then he sank a tight rear naked choke with 3:17 left in the round to score his first win on the big stage.
“This was my dream since I was a kid.
“I’m tired sorry,” quipped Sangiao. “Thank you to my team, my coach and dad, and Chatri [Sityodtong] for letting me show my talent.”
Sangiao rose to 4-0 in his young career while dropping Lumihi to 7-6.
