After four years, Jerry Yee is back as Petro Gazz head coach.
Yee has been tasked by the Angels’ management to lead the team for the upcoming 2022 Premier Volleyball League Open Conference, which tips off on March 16.
“Coach Jerry is back leading the staff starting this year, as head coach,” said Petro Gazz team manager Camille Cruz.
During Yee’s one year with the Angels back in 2018, the team finished in fifth place during the Reinforced Conference and fourth place in the Open Conference.
Though Arnold Laniog took over the job in 2019, Yee still remained as team consultant of the team.
“He has been part of the coaching staff since 2018 as a team consultant and now we do the reshuffle of our coaching staff from time to time just to somehow adjust and try out different approaches especially starting off with another relatively new lineup this year, but with more familiar faces,” continued Cruz. “So yes, after several meetings and discussions among coaching staff and management, we’ve come up with this decision moving forward.”
Laniog, who steered Petro Gazz to a bronze finish in last year’s Open Conference, will still remain as part of Yee’s staff.
Curiously, Yee faced off with Petro Gazz last year during the inaugural PNVF Champions League, steering California Academy to a five-set stunner over the pro team, 18-25, 12-25, 25-22, 25-14, 15-13.
Petro Gazz recently signed MJ Phillips, Aiza Maizo-Pontillas, Bang Pineda, Cienne Cruz, Djanel Cheng, Jonah Sabete, Nicole Tiamzon, and Yeye Gabarda.
