When he witnessed Mark Caguioa punch in his 10,000th career point Friday, Jeff Chan admitted that he felt a bit inspired to achieve the feat he is expected to get sometime this 2018 Governors’ Cup.
After scoring six points in the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel’s 106-92 win over the NLEX Road Warriors on Friday, Chan has moved to just 20 points away from joining the prestigious 5,000-point club.
“Siyempre. Isa sa mga idol ko yan eh.
“Saka to reach yung ganun, isang achievement yun for any player. Tsaka konti lang nakakapunta dun,” said the 10-year league veteran.
Chan is now on pace to become the third player this season to reach the milestone, next to Meralco Bolts forward KG Cañaleta and San Miguel Beermen star June Mar Fajardo.
Moreover, the 35-year-old out of the Far Eastern University Tamaraws program is set to become the 91st player, 87th local, 22nd active player, and 10th Ginebra player to join the club.
Chan will have a chance to accomplish the feat on Sunday, October 7, as the Gin Kings take on rivals Bolts at the Santa Rosa Multi-Purpose Complex in Laguna at 6:45 PM.
But Chan isn’t too eager to get there.
“For me naman ‘di ko pine-pressure sarili ko. Darating din yun,” said the Negros sniper. “Kung may chance, why not, ‘di ba? Sinasabi ko nga darating naman yun eh. ‘Di ko lang pipilitin.
“Once na pipilitin baka ‘di na ‘ko palaruin ni coach,” Chan closed with a chuckle.
