Jason Perkins posts strong numbers but NLEX-SCTEX ends Merlion Cup campaign winless

The NLEX-SCTEX Road Warriors struggled in their final game in the 2017 Merlion Cup, succumbing to Indonesian club team Satria Muda Pertamina, Friday afternoon at the OCBC Arena in Singapore.

NLEX-SCTEX, whose team is composed of the core of two-time PBA D-League champions Cignal HD Hawkeyes, fell to Jeonju KCC Egis on opening day, 79-99, before losing to defending champions Shanghai Sharks yesterday, 65-79.

Despite this, Jason Perkins closed his stellar string of performances in the regional meet with a 32-point, 15-rebound outing.

The Indonesian club team used a fiery second quarter run to turn a three-point lead into a double-digit edge come halftime.

Behind Byron Villarias, who finished with 26 markers, NLEX-SCTEX were able to cut the lead to just 10, 98-88, midway through the final frame. However, Satria Muda was able to withstand the rally, fending off the Philippine side after Gary Jacobs knocked down back-to-back daggers from downtown.

While Pamboy Raymundo was able to recover from a dismal first two outings with 13 markers, import Maurice Shaw was not able to do the same, finishing with just six points and 10 rebounds.

Gary Jacobs led Satria Muda with 33 points while former Globalport import Shawn Taggart added 29 points and 10 rebounds.

The Scores:

NLEX-SCTEX (90) – Perkins 32, Villarias 26, Raymundo 13, Shaw 6, Cahilig 5, Sumalinog 2, Vitug 1, Arboleda 0, Apinan 0, Pangilinan 0.
