Jaja Santiago is set for a new journey.
Saitama announced on Saturday that the 6-foot-4 spiker out of Tanza, Cavite has opted not to re-sign with the team.
The National University great spent the last five seasons with the Ageo Medics.
“It is with a heavy heart that I have decided to step out of my comfort zone, take risks, and broaden my perspective in my volleyball career,” said the 27-year-old Santiago. “The Ageo team will always hold a special place in my heart. This doesn’t mean goodbye, but rather, I’ll see you around.
“The road ahead will be challenging, but I am ready to move forward and face the obstacles that lie ahead.”
In her five-year stay with Saitama, she helped the squad to a third-place finish in the 2019-20 V.League season while powering the team to the VCup title two years ago.
She was also the Best Middle Blocker in the league for the past couple of seasons and was honored with the Fair Play Award.
“I have been with the Ageo team for five years, and those five seasons are no joke. I have learned a lot during my time here. All of my first experiences in professional volleyball happened with this team. I have learned discipline, courage, culture, and definitely the heart of being a professional volleyball player,” she continued.
“I want to express my gratitude to the Ageo management, the coaches, the staff, my teammates, and the fans. I wouldn’t be where I am now without all of you. You inspire me to become a better athlete.”
Now, Santiago is a free agent and it is still not known where she will head next.
“On to the next chapter!”
