Jack Animam, Clare Castro join forces for Gilas 3×3 in FIBA Asia Cup

After making their 3×3 World Cup debut last year, Gilas Women’s 3X3 will bring a loaded lineup to the 2019 FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup.

Headlining the Gilas quartet are the twin tower combination of Clare Castro and Jack Animam.

Castro – who stands at 6-foot-4 and is an incoming senior with the FEU Lady Tamaraws – will be making her international 3×3 debut in this tournament set from May 23 to 26 in Changsha, China.

Head coach Patrick Aquino also retained the trio of Animam, Afril Bernardino, and Janine Pontejos to complete his squad.

Together with Gemma Miranda, Animam, Bernardino, and Pontejos ended up in 17th place during the global meet last year.

Pontejos provided the brightest moment for Team Pilipinas, winning the shootout gold.

Just like the men’s side, Gilas Women’s will have to go through the gauntlet to get into the tournament proper.

The Filipinas will have to top Group A, which includes Chinese-Taipei, Vanuatu, and Samoa, to move Group C of the Asia Cup.

If ever the Philippines advances to Group C, it will face Japan and New Zealand with the top two teams advancing to the playoffs.

For the men’s side, Ronnie Magsanoc decided to bring five players to China.

Ricci Rivero, Rhayyan Amsali, RJ Abarrientos, and Barkley Ebona will be joined by Kenneth Tuffin.

Magsanoc will have a window of up until 24 hours before the tournament to decide on who his quartet will be.
