ITF: Eala, Ribera clinch doubles semis berth in W25 Palma de Rio

Alex Eala and Marina Bassols Ribera continued to blitz through the doubles competition of the W25 Open Generali Ciudad del Palma de Rio.

The fourth seeds prevailed on Wednesday (Thursday morning, Philippine time) over Ashley Lahey of the United States and Marta Huqi Espinas of Spain, 6-1, 6-3, in the quarterfinals of the $25,000 ITF event held at the Polideportivo Municipal el Pandero in Palma del Rio, Spain.

It was another convincing victory for the Eala-Bassols Ribera tandem as they broke serve six times and 57 points, most of which came from their dominant serves and game-winners.

To earn a spot in the finals, Eala and Bassols Ribera will have to get past the top seeded pair of Valeria Savinykh of Russia and Fanni Stollar of Hungary. Savinykh and Stollar reached the semifinals without breaking a sweat as they won their first round and quarterfinal matches via walk-over.

The women’s doubles semifinals will be played on Thursday (Friday morning, Philippine time).

Just before the doubles semis, Eala will be seeing action in the Round of 16 of the women’s singles competition. She will be facing second seed Jessika Ponchet of France.

The winner between Eala and Ponchet will advance to the quarterfinals.
