ITF: Alcantara sustains streak, rules M25 Si Thammarat with Moriya

Francis Casey Alcantara and Hiroki Moriya have continued their winning streak in the month of June.

The Filipino-Japanese duo showcased exceptional teamwork and precision as they defeated Thai favorite Maximus Jones and New Zealand’s Finn Reynolds in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, in the finals of the ITF M25 Nakhon Si Thammarat held on Saturday at Walailak University.

Just two weeks ago, Alcantara and Moriya clinched the title in the BNI-Medco Energi M25K International Tennis Series in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Seeded second in the $25,000 event in Thailand this week, Alcantara and Moriya broke their opponents’ serve twice in the opening set, allowing them to take the lead against the fourth-seeded Jones and Reynolds.

The second set proved to be a closer battle. The decisive moment came in the opening game when Alcantara and Moriya broke Jones and Reynolds at love, giving them the crucial lead. Throughout the match, the second seeds held their serve and faced break points only twice.

Alcantara and Moriya breezed through their first two matches in the competition. They easily defeated Thailand’s Credit Chaiyarin and Tanakorn Srirat in the first round, 6-1, 6-1, and then overpowered another Thai pair, Kasidit Samrej and Thantub Suksumrarn, in the quarterfinals with a score of 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.

In the semifinals, they made a remarkable comeback from a 2-4 deficit in the super tiebreak to defeat Alcantara’s former doubles partner, Pruchya Isarow of Thailand, and Markos Kalovelonis of Greece, with a score of 6-3, 5-7, 10-6.(AIC)
