ITF: Alcantara cops another runner-up finish, this time in Jakarta

Francis Casey Alcantara finished runner-up for the second time in three weeks as he and Pruchya Isaro of Thailand dropped a 4-6, 5-7 decision to second seeds Ray Ho of Chinese Taipei and Fajing Sun of China on Saturday in the ITF M25 Indonesia International Championship held at the Sultan Hotel Tennis Court in Jakarta.

Alcantara, incidentally, teamed up with Sun in the M15 Singapore where they also fell in the finals last April 8.

Seeded fourth in the $25,000 Jakarta event, Alcantara and Isaro dropped serve in the seventh game of the first set which proved costly as it allowed Ho and Sun to pocket the opener.

Alcantara and Isaro had their best stretch when they went ahead 4-2 and had a 40-love advantage on their serve in the second set. But Ho and Sun crawled their way back to break serve then leveled the score at 4-4. The pivotal moment happened in the 11th game with the score tied at 5-5.

Ho and Sun gained their third service break of the match to regain the upperhand and create the separation they needed to clinch the match and the title.

Alcantara and Isaro were looking for their second title together in a little over a month after they clinched last March 18 the men’s doubles championship trophy of the ITF M25 New Delhi. (AC)
