Continuing its mission of bringing Filipino-Americans back home, Fil-Nation Select has tapped Iris Tolenada as its volleyball director.
Tolenada is a perfect choice for the group headed by Chris Gopez. The 2016 PVL Open Conference Best Setter has previously been a coach with Santa Clara.
For the 29-year-old Tolenada, this is a duty she takes into heart.
“You can look forward to the Fil-Am volleyball players getting more exposure not only across the nation, but hopefully across the world,” she told Theodore Jurado of the People’s Journal.
“I accepted this opportunity because this is an amazing chance for me to connect more with the Fil-Am community, and it’s also a way for me to get back into coaching in a different way.”
Tolenada was supposed to return and play for Motolite for the bubble season of the PVL. However, the team disbanded due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
But that won’t stop the 5-foot-8 setter from coming back home one day.
“I miss all of the amazing support in the Philippines and I’m sending all my love to everyone. I’ll be back at some point.”
