Impressive on her own, Jean Asis vows to carry lessons in regular season

DASMARIÑAS, CAVITE – Jean Asis’ selection as the second overall pick in the 2025 Premier Volleyball League Rookie Draft may have surprised some, but she wasted no time proving her worth.

In her debut conference with Galeries Tower during the 2025 PVL On Tour preseason tournament, the former Far Eastern University middle blocker made an immediate impact, scoring in double digits in five out of six games.

Yet, despite her strong individual performance, Asis felt far from satisfied, as the Highrisers ended their campaign winless in all six outings.

“Siyempre first conference ko ito and hindi naman ganon kadali din talaga yung naging journey ko this conference. Pero ayun nga, naibigay ko naman yung best ko, pero hindi pa siya enough para maipanalo yung team,” Asis said after their final game of the Tour.

“Siguro naman sa mga susunod na conference, nandoon na yung learnings saka nasa amin na rin yun kung paano namin siya i-improve sa following conference,” she added.

Despite failing to notch a single win during pool play, Galeries Tower still had a shot at the quarterfinals through a knockout round. However, that door was slammed shut by Chery Tiggo, who swept them, 25-23, 25-22, 25-21, on Saturday at the Dasmariñas Arena here.

Asis, who exploded for 16 points in her PVL debut, continued to see silver linings in the Highrisers’ journey, remaining hopeful despite the setbacks.

“Kasi knowing sa previous games namin, close lang eh, close lang talaga yung mga laban. Siguro short lang talaga, kinapos lang talaga kami, pero I know yung team namin may kaya pang ibuga and kayang makipagsabayan sa other teams,” she shared.

Asis once again led the charge for Galeries Tower in their loss to Chery Tiggo, finishing with 13 points, while Jewel Encarnacion added solid support. Still, just like in their previous matches, the Highrisers struggled to close out crucial sets.
