The Bali Pure Water Defenders were well on their way to a fourth straight win in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference after taking the first two sets over the Perlas Spikers and leading the third set 13-10 Saturday afternoon.
But that all evaporated, as the Water Defenders’ solid play crumbled for the rest of the match. They had no response in the end-game for a veteran Perlas side that erased their undefeated record in five sets.
Three time NCAA MVP and Bali Pure leading scorer Grethcel Soltones was just as stunned at how they ended the match. The decorated beach volleyball player pointed to her team’s lack of maturity as the cause for their collapse.
“Sabi ni coach Roger [Gorayeb] naging bata kami bigla, naging immature kami sa pag-handle ng mistakes namin. As you saw, parang every error namin, nada-down kami which is hindi dapat,” said the 21-year-old spiker, whose game-high 20 points went for naught.
Soltones also refused to make any excuses, saying how they play after this will be a test of their character.
“Okay pa naman kami as a team. Ibig sabihin lang nito marami pa kaming kailangan ayusin. Desidido naman kaming makabawi,” the reigning Open Conference MVP vowed.
