Sibol’s Alexandre “AK” Laverez delivered his best Tekken 7 performance to date, securing the silver at the IESF World Esports Championship in Iasi, Romania.
Laverez, who had finished tied for 13th-16th in the Tekken World Tour Finals in Amsterdam, improved on his quarterfinal run in the IESF World Championship back in 2018.
The Playbook Esports star faced difficulties in the first three matches against Atif “Atif Butt” Ijaz of Pakistan in the grand finals, despite using his signature Shaheen in two matches. This put him at a 3-0 disadvantage in the series.
However, Laverez finally made a breakthrough in Match 4 by selecting Akuma, winning 3-1 and securing his first match win.
Ijaz quickly reset and claimed a 3-1 victory in Match 5, putting him at match point. He continued his winning streak with another 3-1 victory in Match 7, ultimately earning the gold medal with a 5-2 series win.
Laverez had a relatively smooth tournament leading up to the grand finals. He dominated Group C with a flawless 5-0 record and won all but one match in the playoffs on his way to the championship round.
Laverez is coached by Martin Veerayah.
