SIBOL Dota 2 settled for a silver finish after fumbling its upper bracket advantage in the finals against Indonesia, 2-3, in the grand finals of the 14th IESF World Esports Championships, Saturday in Bali, Indonesia.
The Filipinos enjoyed an early 1-0 advantage in the best-of-five series as an incentive for winning the upper bracket series.
Unfortunately, SIBOL failed to capitalize as the Indonesians — led by notable stars Rafli “Mikoto” Rahman and Matthew “Whitemon” Filemon quickly tied the series at 1-all.
SIBOL moved a win away from securing the gold after bagging Game Three but once again botched their advantage, losing the next two games to surrender the gold to Indonesia.
The Philippines placed second in Group B with a 4-1 standing before Uzbekistan, Australia, and Thailand in the play-ins to secure a spot in the playoffs.
SIBOL then took out Kazakhstan, Indonesia, and Laos in the playoffs en route to the finals.
Charles Delos Santos, Joel Pagkatotohan, James Erice Guera, Jomari Anis, Eljohn Andales, and Mark Anthony Rubina compose the squad.
