Ryan Reyes was part of the 2015 TNT squad that won the PBA Commissioner’s Cup title, but he barely got to play as he missed the entire conference due to an Achilles heel injury.
Now, everything is coming together for the nine-year PBA veteran. Last October he was selected to be part of the Gilas Pilipinas pool, and returned to action for TNT as well in the Philippine Cup.
Back in Commissioner’s Cup play, and with the Tropa not having Kevin Alas nor Willie Miller from last season’s Commissioner’s Cup roster, Reyes is trying to keep himself healthy to contribute.
“It’s not an old role. I’ve been through that before. This time I am on the court instead of watching on the stands or cheering last time,” Reyes said. “Whatever coach gives me, I will just execute it in the best possible way. I give it my 100 percent all the time.”
“I just have to take care of my body and know when to sacrifice my body on certain plays. At the same I have to stay healthy the entire season. So far it is good and I hope to stay like that.”
At 32 years old, Reyes’ top priority right now is staying fit in order to make an impact for the team. When he is not on the court, he takes the valuable time to rest and spend time with his family.
Reyes also thanked the team staff for a job well done when it comes to keeping him fresh and regulating his minutes to not wear him out.
“It’s the same, taking extra caution, coaches telling me what to do out there with my quality minutes, they are watching my minutes too so I am not too tired,” Reyes said of his routine. “Everyone else has done a great job monitoring.”
“Just as long as I am on the floor, I am happy. Anyway I can help the team whether it’s offense or defense, I play my hardest every game. Being out there is a blessing.”
