Rain or Shine head coach Yeng Guiao once again took a swipe at officiating after what he believes was a missed technical foul call on Ginebra head coach Tim Cone for entering the court late in Game One of the two sides’ quarterfinals showdown.
Rain or Shine was ahead by just a solitary point, 85-84 under the final minute when Cone was slapped with one technical foul. The Ginebra mentor went on to complain about the call and entered the court in the process.
Guiao immediately tried to draw the attention of the officials while Cone was complaining, believing Cone cannot do such thing.
“If you cross the hash line that is an automatic technical. I was asking the refs why he (Tim Cone) could do that. They stated the rules very clearly. Maybe you can get beyond the hash line two or three steps but he was already on our side,” Guiao said after Rain or Shine’s 88-84 victory.
Cone was never called for another technical even if he stayed on the court for quite a while before being restrained by Ginebra import Othyus Jeffers.
Guiao added if he was the one who entered the court and complained, the officials would have approached it differently.
“If I did as much complaining as he did, I would have been given another technical or I would be ejected. Kung hindi ko pa sinabihan (na bawal yun) hindi nila i-te-technical,” he said.
Rain or Shine and Ginebra will square off in Game Two on Tuesday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
