The 2021 PBA Philippine Cup chapter of the famed Barangay Ginebra San Miguel-Meralco saga will have to wait for a while to be written.
In a bulletin issued Sunday, the highly-anticipated match between the rivals has been postponed in accordance with health and safety protocols.
Furthermore, it would have been their first meeting since the do-or-die Game Five of last year’s all-Filipino bubble semifinals at the AUF Arena.
The game was supposed to take place later at 4:35 p.m. as part of a loaded triple-header slate at the Don Honorio Ventura State University Gym.
Both squads were aiming to bounce back following their respective losses last Friday. The Gin Kings bowed to Terrafirma through a 90-95 decision, while the Bolts suffered a 91-76 beatdown in the hands of TNT.
With this development, the league has decided to tweak Sunday’s schedule. The Tropang Giga’s meeting with fellow title favorites Magnolia has been moved to 4:35 p.m. They were originally set to play at 7:00 p.m.
The streaking Dyip’s clash with the still-winless Blackwater Bossing, on the other hand, pushes through at 2:00 p.m.
This marks the second time since the conference’s resumption last Wednesday that a game has been postponed. The San Miguel Beer-Alaska tiff got called off yesterday, leaving the NLEX-Phoenix as the only match of the day.
