Coming off a 14-16 loss to China, the Philippines pounded host Malaysia, 19-8, to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2019 FIBA 3X3 Under-18 Asia Cup, Thursday evening at Cyberjaya, Malaysia.
With a 1-1 slate, Gilas Pilipinas Girls’ 3×3 join China (2-0) to the next round. They will take on the top team of Pool C which is composed of Turkmenistan, New Zealand, and India.
Camille Clarin led the way in the demolition, scoring all nine of her points during the first seven minutes and 16 seconds of the game to give Gilas an imposing 14-7 lead.
The NU commit built her points on deuces, a free throw, and four one-point shots.
Kristine Cayabyab finished off Malaysia, scoring four of the last five points of Gilas. On the other side, the team allowed just one point.
Cayabyab had six points, all from downtown. Angelica Surada and Ella Fajardo had three and one points, respectively.
Yeo Zi Ying was the sole bright spot for host Malaysia with four points.
