Gian Nazario to serve as La Salle head coach until further notice

During their 2019 Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup debut, Jermaine Byrd was calling the shots for the De La Salle University Green Archers.

But on paper, the American mentor – who started with La Salle back in January – is serving as the active consultant for the squad.

Apparently, former De La Salle-Zobel assistant coach Gian Nazario is penciled in as the head coach of the Green Archers.

“I’m the coach until La Salle makes an announcement,” said Nazario after La Salle’s 72-49 win over the UST Growling Tigers.

Danny Seigle will serve as the team’s head of basketball operation; Chappy Callanta as the strength and conditioning coach; MC Abolucion as video coordinator; and Lamont Waters as a liaison officer.

For incoming senior Aljun Melecio, having his former mentor with him at the college level is refreshing.

“Malaking bagay yun kasi si coach Gi, alam niya kung may problema ako on or off court,” Melecio expressed.

“Ever since High School, magkasama na kami eh.”
