George King is returning to the PBA.
On Wednesday, Blackwater released its rights to King, paving the way for him to sign with San Miguel for the PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup.
King, the 6-foot-6 scorer from the University of Colorado, previously made a strong impression with the Bossing during the 2024 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
In 10 games, he averaged 34.5 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game, highlighted by a 64-point explosion on Sept. 23, 2024, in a 139–118 win over Rain or Shine.
Since his stint with Blackwater, King played in Lebanon, Egypt, Iraq, Taiwan, and, most recently, with German club Gladiators Trier.
He now joins a San Miguel squad eager to bounce back after a Commissioner’s Cup campaign that saw the team cycle through three imports—Marcus Lee, Justin Patton, and Bennie Boatwright.
The Beermen finished the eliminations as the sixth seed with a 7–5 record before bowing to the Elasto Painters in the quarterfinals, ending their bid for a grand slam.
San Miguel is now eyeing a breakthrough in the Governors’ Cup, where it has not won a title in 11 years.
