Generika sweeps Amy’s to return to win column

The Generika Lifesavers took a much-needed win Sunday evening, sweeping the Amy’s Kitchen Spikers, 25-16, 25-23, 25-15, to snap its four-game losing streak at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.

Setter and team captain Rubie de Leon took a day off for the game. Alex Cabanos more than played her part as the team’s setter in notching 13 excellent sets in the game.

The taller Lifesavers bullied the young Altas-laden team in the first set en route to a whopping 23-13 first set led. Cindy Imbo tried to will her team back in but Ria Meneses scooped the ball to bring Generika within set point while a quick coming from her ended the set.

In contrast to the opener, the second stanza was neck and neck. Amy’s was able to rally back from 21-17 down behind Jowie Verzosa, Imbo, and Lourdes Clemente to tie the game at 23-all. Chloe Cortez was able to find the hole to send Generika within a point while a net touch violation by Imbo gave another set to the Lifesavers.

Gassed after that second set, Amy’s Spikers never stood a chance in the third frame. The Generika lead ballooned to as high as 22-13 before finishing the game with the score of 25-15.

Three Lifesavers scored in double-figures. UE Lady Warrior Shaya Adorador led the way with 12 points. Cortez added 11 while Meneses punched in 10 markers, all from attacks.

Cindy Imbo led Amy’s Kitched with 10 points.

The Lifesavers (2-4) will next face the RC Cola-Army Lady Troopers (5-0) on Tuesday, July 19 at the Batangas City Coliseum. On the other hand, the young Amy’s Spikers (0-6) look to gain more experience as they face the Cignal HD Spikers (1-5) on Saturday, July 23 at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
