Gayoso, Uzoka net braces as ADT blanks Maharlika for back-to-back wins


In what was one of the best individual displays in the 2020 PFL Season sponsored by Qatar Airways, Jarvey Gayoso scored two goals and got as many assists as the Azkals Development Team prevailed 5-0 against Maharlika Manila, Friday at the PFF National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.

After a goalless first half, a penalty by Gayoso at the 61st minute opened the floodgates for coach Scott Cooper’s men.

Beforehand, substitute Chima Uzoka was adjudged to have been brought down by Dingdong Fornea in the Maharlika box to give the Azkals Development Team an opportunity to finally break the deadlock.

“I just wanted to give everything for the team,” said the 23-year-old Ateneo product. “Overall, we just look at it as a win. No matter what the score is, it’s just a win. It’s just three points. We look forward to the next game.”

With momentum truly on their side, the Azkals Development Team struck again at the 65th minute to seize a two-goal lead over coach Roxy Dorlas’ squad.

Substitute Lance Ocampo raced through the right flank and directed the ball at the middle of the Maharlika box, which was slotted home by Yrik Gallantes.

Gayoso then turned provider for his team’s third and fourth goals of the match at the 75th and 89th minutes.

The skipper laid the ball off twice for Uzoka, who made no mistake to score past goalkeeper Henri Bandeken Fong both times.

The two-time UAAP champion then struck against at the 91st minute to cap off a fantastic evening for the Azkals Development Team.

“It was a nice way to finish the game,” said ADT coach Scott Cooper. “Better composure again from us and some good penetrating round out wide from Ocampo and Gallantes.”

Maharlika Manila’s evening went worse after the match as one of its stalwarts, Anton del Rosario, was given a straight red card.

The two teams will end their respective campaigns on Monday. The ADT (6 points) takes on Stallion Laguna Football Club at 9:00 AM while Maharila Manila (3 points) goes up against Mendiola Football Club 1991 at 4:30 PM.
