Thrilled to face her former team Galeries Tower, France Ronquillo turned in her best performance yet for Capital1 in the 2026 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference on Saturday.
Ronquillo came up big for the Solar Spikers as they narrowly edged the gutsy Highrisers in a thrilling, hard-fought four-set battle, 25-20, 22-25, 25-22, 26-24, to secure the eighth seed in the play-in quarterfinals.
“Parang hindi ako kinabahan,” said the 26-year-old winger, who moved from Galeries to Capital1 during the offseason.
“Na-excite ako kasi siyempre naging teammates ko sila before, and ayun nga, nasa bagong team na ako. Na-excite ako na makalaban sila.”
The National University product delivered her best game in a Solar Spikers uniform, scoring 20 points and perfectly complementing Bella Belen, who led all scorers with 23 points to guide Capital1 to the hard-fought victory.
Ronquillo said she wanted to repay Coach Jorge Souza de Brito’s trust by delivering a strong performance for the team after being placed in the starting unit.
“Siguro naging mindset ko lang po is ilabas din po ‘yung laro ko. Kasi parang siyempre nagtiwala si coach sa akin na nilagay ako sa first six, so kailangan ipakita ko na tama ‘yung desisyon ni coach,” she said.
Her effort did not go unnoticed, as De Brito praised Ronquillo for stepping up when it mattered most.
“Well, we work as a team. So everyone has to give their contribution. Sometimes you serve hard, sometimes you block. Even if you’re not scoring, you’re there to support. So it’s a kind of engine to work,” said the Brazilian coach.
” We need that, everyone has to be aware.”
