Folayang raring to get match vs fellow icon Akiyama

Eduard “Landslide” Folayang continues to chase his goal of competing for another ONE World Title even after his recent struggles — and he’s looking to tie up some loose ends at the same time.

Folayang remains open to facing Yoshihiro “Sexyama” Akiyama after their initial match at “ONE on TNT IV” in April got scrapped because the Japanese-Korean sustained an injury during training.

Now with both men healthy, Folayang hopes to finally test himself against Akiyama.

“If given the chance to face him, of course, I’d want to test him. I haven’t faced him before, and I want to see how I’d fare against him,” Folayang said.

“Maybe in time we’ll cross paths, and it will be an honor to finally face him.”

The match-up, if it happens, would prove who’s the better legend but also show who’s the prettier man.

“If that happens, I know I’ll be the sexier man after that match,” Folayang said.

A good performance against Akiyama could springboard the Filipino back toward the top of the lightweight division. It’s a mountain he plans to scale en route to a shot at ONE Lightweight World Champion Christian “The Warrior” Lee.

He knows he’s far from a World Title clash at this point. Still, he’s not taking his eyes off the goal.

“It’s still a champion. I still want to test myself against him in the future. I know that I am not in the position to call him out now, but still, my eyes are on him,” Folayang said.

“I’ve seen how much Christian Lee has improved and grown through the years. I’m really impressed with how easily he transitioned from featherweight to lightweight, and from the tough opposition that he’s faced, he showed what he can truly do.”
