In final year, Audrey Paran aspires to be reliable presence for NU

Audrey Paran has been a positive factor for National University in its league-leading 2-0 start in the UAAP Season 82 women’s volleyball tournament so far.

She tallied nine points in NU’s five-set escape act over last year’s finalist University of Santo Tomas, providing ample support to the troika of Margot Mutshima, Risa Sato and Ivy Lacsina.

Paran then propelled the Lady Bulldogs past the upstart Adamson University in straight sets. She dispersed 10 attacks, three aces, and two blocks, clipping the Lady Falcons’ wings with a game-high 15 points.

Safe to say, things have been going just as planned for the NU stalwart in her swan song.

“‘Yung reliability ko sa loob kailangan palagi akong may ico-contribute sa team ko. Dapat isa ako sa tutulong kela coach sa loob,” the graduating hitter from Lipa, Batangas bared when asked of her aspirations this season. “‘Di pwedeng ako pa ‘yung unang-una na magpapabigat sa loob.

“Kailangan lagi akong on kasi last year ko na, so ibibigay ko na ‘yung best ko.”

Paran has never been on the biggest stage of the league, much less experienced winning the championship. But there’s no question that she and her teammates are working doubly hard to have a clear shot at the title.

After all, the Lady Bulldogs simply want to give back to the community that has been supporting them all this time.

“Nagtrabaho talaga kami, nag-ensayo kami ng puspusan,” the 5-foot-8 Paran said.

“‘Yung mindset namin bibigay namin ‘yung best namin, hindi lang sa mga teammates namin kun’di sa mga taong sumusuporta sa amin.”
