Filipinas retain core for Costa Rica friendlies

Familiarity is the name of the game as the Philippine Women’s National Football Team called up several players from its recent successes for its matches against Costa Rica, which is ranked 37th in the FIFA Women’s World Rankings.

Coach Alen Stajcic will have 25 players to choose from for the matches on October 7 and October 11 at the Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuel.

The likes of Kiara Fontanilla, Kaiya Jota, Olivia Davies-McDaniel, and Inna Palacios will compete to be the starting goalkeeper for the team.

When it comes to the defenders, Reina Bonta, Malea Cesar, Jessika Cowart, Sofia Harrison, Hali Long, Eva Madarang, Chantelle Maniti, Dominique Randle, and Tara Shelton will compete to form the backline of the team.

In midfield, Tahnai Annis, Anicka Castaneda, Sara Eggesvik, Carleigh Frilles, Jessica Miclat, Camille Rodriguez, and Jaclyn Sawicki shall look to fill up places in the middle of the park.

When it comes to the forwards, Sarina Bolden, Shai del Campo, Isabella Flanigan, Katrina Guillou, and Quinley Quezada look to make a positive impression in the first third of the pitch.

The Filipinas are currently ranked 53rd in the world. Their last match was a 2-1 defeat to New Zealand, which saw Bolden scoring early only for the team to concede twice late in the match.
