The Philippine Women’s National Football Team will face familiar opponents in the second round of the 2024 AFC Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
Coach Alen Stajcic’s side was drawn into Group A alongside Australia, Chinese Taipei, and Iran on Thursday at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The Filipinas have faced all three nations recently. They defeated Chinese Taipei on penalties in the 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup to secure a spot in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The Philippines also played against Australia in the same continental competition, with Australia sending their under-23 squad to the 2022 AFF Women’s Championship.
Regarding Iran, the Philippines has a winning record against the Middle Eastern country.
The Filipinas won 2-0 in the 2020 AFC Olympic Qualifying Tournament; and 6-0 in the 2014 AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualification.
Australia will host the matches from October 23 to November 1.
The top country in the group will earn an automatic ticket to the third round. Meanwhile, the second-place finisher may qualify as long as it is ranked higher than the other two second-place finishers in the round.
