Filipinas fall 0-4 to Finland in Pinatar Cup warm-up

The Filipinas prepared for their 2024 Pinatar Cup participation with a 0-4 loss to 27th-ranked Finland on Wednesday at the Pinatar Arena in Spain.

Oona Sevenius, who plays for AC Milan in Italy, stole the show for the The Boreal Owls by scoring a hattrick.

The 19-year-old striker broke the deadlock in the 24th minute with a left-footed strike. She executed a brilliant finish past goalkeeper Olivia McDaniel in the 43rd minute to get her second goal.

Sevenius then completed her tally in the 72nd minute with a close-range finish right at the face of goal.

Eva Nyström scored Finland’s other goal in the 28th minute with a header.

For the Filipinas, captain Hali Long did not play in the match because she served a suspension.

The likes of Katana Norman and Alexa Pino, who came on for Jessica Miclat and Gianna Sahirul in the 46th and 88th minutes respectively, had their first caps representing the Philippines.

Mark Torcaso’s squad will now shift gears toward the Pinatar Cup. The Filipinas will face Scotland this Saturday at 10:05 PM (Manila time).

Depending on the result of that match, they will go up against Slovenia or Finland on Tuesday with a kickoff time for that fixture to be finalized.

Finland XI: Koivunen (GK), Nyström, Koivisto, Tynnila, Ahtinen ©, Kosola, E Siren, O Siren, Franssi, Summanen, Sevenius.

Philippines XI: McDaniel (GK), Bonta, Annis ©, Eggesvik, Miclat, Beard, Pasion, Harrison, Sahirul, Guillou.
