De La Salle University scored a sweet, sweet victory on Thursday night after taking down University of Sto. Tomas for the first time since Season 81 of the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament.
Save for a hiccup in the third set, the Lady Spikers had an exceptional outing against the Golden Tigresses, 25-23, 25-17, 22-25, 25-8, which also saw them limit Eya Laure, the league’s top scorer, to a season-low eight points.
The victory broke the tie between the two teams with La Salle taking the second spot with an 8-3 win-loss standing.
But more than that, both Fifi Sharma and Leila Cruz believe that this win could help the team gain more confidence heading into the final stretch of the elimination round.
“Siguro nakakadagdag din ng kumpyansa sa amin, makakatulong siya sa team para mag tuloy tuloy pa kami pataas. Feel ko makakatulong talaga yung game na ‘to para mag gel pa kami as a team,” said Cruz, who put up a game-high 15 points to produce her best outing in Season 84.
“Very happy kasi nakatulong ako sa team para makabawi kami against UST,” she added.
Also, Sharma is just glad to finally avenge their seniors against UST, who denied them the chance of entering the finals in Season 81.
Well, the two were also part of the 24-26, 22-25, 25-27, 25-23, 15-12 collapse the Lady Spikers experienced against the same team back on May 12.
“Happy lang ako na nakapag contribute kami and nabawi namin yung seniors namin since this is our first win against UST since Season 81,” said the daughter of former La Salle basketball player Carlo Sharma, who ended up with 13 points.
