Tremont Waters’ heroics propelled Puerto Rico past the Dominican Republic 102-95 in Group I of the second round of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Waters produced 37 points and 11 assists, highlighted by an acrobatic lay-up play past Karl-Anthony Towns to level the score for the Puerto Ricans at 95-all with 58 seconds remaining.
He then iced the game with two free throws with 21 seconds remaining to elevate Puerto Rico’s cushion to 100-95.
Both teams will return to action this Sunday. Puerto Rico will face Italy in the afternoon game while Dominican Republic shall take on Serbia in the evening.
